Leadership Growth Begins Outside of the Comfort Zone

It was a first.

I take personal development seriously. I believe that to help others with their growth; I must grow.

Martha Stewart once told me to learn something new every day, which has become a personal mantra.

Learning includes investing in myself with new experiences.

Here are a few of my firsts from 2022:

I wrote a book.

For Success Sake! is for the high-achiever who wants to get decided and get to work on reaching their highest potential with more joy! The 10-month writing project has been one of the hardest things my mind has tackled. I worked to overcome the sneaky feelings of imposter syndrome and to believe that my writing would inspire (even just one person!) to succeed. The book will be available on Amazon in February.

I’m taking horseback riding lessons.

If you know me, you know I’m terrified of animals. But I’ve always had a crazy desire to take horseback riding lessons. I’ve learned to overcome the terror of brushing, tacking up, mounting, and putting a 1000-pound animal back in his stall. Letting go of the thoughts of mastery was also required. Along the way, I've found a new place of peace.

I rode in Cycle for Survival.

This was my second team, but this was first time I was healthy enough to ride for the cause. My team was full of family members who I love and adore. Riding at the event was a coming out of sorts for me, having gone through treatment for AML Leukemia and now raising money for an organization that has made a profound difference in cancer research. I was asked to ride on 'Jenn's' bike during the event in honor of the young women who COS was created to honor.

I joined a mastermind.

Putting myself in a room of big thinkers and creators has expanded my mind and made me better. I questioned if I belonged in the room in this post, Unstoppable in the Face of Fear. The transformational experience wouldn't have happened if I had let the fear win. The return on investment from investing in yourself is priceless.

I took a hot air balloon ride.

I overcame my uneasiness of heights, but my worry about crashing was pushed to the test when we did! After scraping the roof of a house, it was a rough landing on the street between houses. A one-and-done for me. But now that I have the experience, I can add it to the list of experiences that make up the many layers of who I am.

What will be your firsts in 2023?

How will you invest in yourself? The ROI of investing in you is in your hands.

When you give yourself permission to invest in you, you begin thriving because you fill your mind with what feeds it. You create a new reality immediately by simply deciding what you want for yourself. And when you do, you elevate yourself and your self-concept.

If you are fighting with yourself about the cost of investing and are feeling 'irresponsible,' that is a fight for your limitations.

Dream lives don't happen by default. Stand in your power and decide to become something more than you are today.

Investing in yourself is intentional.

Deciding.
Taking action.
Experiencing it.

Becoming better because you took a chance.

"Every choice is a chance" is a Ted Lasso quote. Make a choice to invest in you this year.

Firsts are additive. You grow. You fail. You try. You understand more about who you are as a person. You discover your never-agains and get clearer on your must-haves.

You are never too old.

You’ve never learned enough.

There is no deadline when pursuing your dreams, no matter how big or small they are.

Take an art class. Start a podcast. Write a book. When you do, you connect with people you may not have met ordinarily, which adds a bit of zest to your day.

It doesn’t have to be completely new. Go back to something you left behind that you love.

Don’t let fear get in the way. Scary, sure, but it gets less scary each time. I can say that...remember the hot air balloon.

Today, when I reflect on my 2022 firsts, I know that one year ago, I only dreamed of who I could become with all of my firsts.

What firsts will you take this year?

Who will you become along the way?

Let's hop on a call to look at where you are now and where you want to be at the end of next year. I know I can help get you there. Book it HERE.

The question I get most frequently on these calls, ‘what results can I achieve?’ Here’s what one client shared:

"The biggest impact working with Christina ...."Thoughts control your emotions, which control your actions"...You cannot have a positive action from a negative thought or emotion. Journaling as a tool to help "clear the cobwebs" in order to have more productive thinking has made a huge impact."
