To Build Your Career Success, Build Your Influence
The rise of social media and influencer power has blurred the reality between what looks like success and what is successful.
Research proves that the very act of following increases anxiety, loneliness, self-doubt, insecurity, and debilitating comparison
When we follow we...
View their accomplishments to measure our success.
Compare instead of celebrating what is working for us right now.
Think about going their way, not our own way.
Look outside of ourselves instead of deciding for ourselves.
Consider this:
Doing it their way is not the right way for you.
The only right way is the way you make right.
Instead of following, become a leader.
Leaders don’t create more followers; they create more leaders.
I had to learn this myself.
I grew tired of looking outside myself for answers and direction on what I should do to create my success.
I stopped delegating responsibility. I am the only one responsible for me, my success, and my happiness.
I stopped searching for my purpose in someone else's and started showing-up more purposeful.
I started listening to my heart, gut, and my thoughts for guidance on what I wanted for my life to achieve success and happiness.
I started by giving myself permission to hear the whispers of wanting something more for myself.
I then did the work of deciding to rewrite my definition of success from a place of compassion, understanding, and, most of all, possibility.
So can you.
Success doesn't happen to you.
Success doesn’t come from following someone else.
Let’s choose not to live by the reality of others.
Let's choose to create the extraordinary life we want.
To be clear, I’m a follower. I want to follow those that inspire me, challenge me, teach, and lead me to something new.
I also post on social media and want followers to be inspired by my journey to define my success. I’ve learned, failed, faced adversity, stood back up again, and taken new steps forward, and if I can share it so others can learn from it, I’ve made an impact. And that’s my new purpose.
Success doesn't come from money, titles, or things.
Success for me is being successFUL. Full of joy, ease and impact.
There’s immense power in saying I deserve more and finally believing it, not as a means to grandstand or pound my chest but to empower and give me permission to live from the expectations I set for myself.

In For Success Sake!, the chapter titled, Reporters, Procrasta-learners & Creators, Dr. Somi Javaid, who is pictured here, is the Creator I wrote about. She is changing women's healthcare. She is a visionary, a role model, a client, and a dear friend. She wrote this testimonial on the book's back cover, and I'm so grateful.
“Being a founder can sometimes be the loneliest job in the whole world. There are days filled with self-doubt, angst, hurdles, fires, and tears. Other days are filled with laughter, triumph, and success. As a founder, the goal is to string as many great days together as possible and not waste time trying to put out fires.
Christina's book is filled with sound advice and wisdom and is like a trusted friend helping you navigate the precarious founder journey. Christina helps quiet the negative voices and empowers the dreamer within to take the stage that you deserve and to reach your fullest potential.”
–Dr. Somi Javaid, Founder & Chief Medical Officer, HerMD
HerMD is coming to New Jersey in just a few months. Stay tuned!
