How High Achievers Elevate Success
"Your vibe is your value."
This struck a chord when Erin King shared it on the Earn Your Happy podcast.
I lived the opposite for years.
As a media CRO, I was the poster child for powering through:
Closing magazine issues, managing ad layouts, filling last-minute holes
Juggling a dozen client meetings with tricky personalities
Leading 1:1s and team meetings to inspire and set expectations
Forecasting through market pressure
Hosting industry fireside chats
Fighting a never-ending battle with email
This was my normal. Running on a treadmill at a max incline, out of breath, and charging ahead.
Telling myself:
"It'll be better when..."
"If I could just hit my goal..."
Powering through wasn't serving me or the people I led.
Energy is Contagious
The vibe I gave off was a real downer:
Stressed
Intense
Urgent
Rushed (people commented on my determined walk 😩)
Yes, I was leading—but my leading energy affected everyone around me.
Likely leading them to feel more stressed.
Here's what I know now. Research from Vanessa Van Edwards, founder of The Science of People, proves when you:
Sit next to an under performer: Your performance drops 30%.
Work beside a high performer: Your performance jumps 15%.
When you work with someone whose vibe is STRESS, it rubs off.
Energy transfers.
That's why managing your energy is meaningful. That's why surrounding yourself with high performers matters.
The Value Equation
--->Your emotions are energy.
--->That energy creates your vibe.
--->That vibe generates your value.
Choose Your Vibe
My definition of success is being SuccessFULL: Full of Joy, Ease, and Impact. Emotions creating my value.
A vibe I work to intentionally create.
You have the agency to decide what emotions and energy you bring to work, to your team, and your relationships.
Managing your emotions is a direct path to creating more value.
When you know the vibe you want to bring, you can intentionally make decisions from that place.
Having a magnetic or 'good' vibe doesn't eliminate worry or doubt. Will there be days when you need to power through? Absolutely.
But powering up your days with intentional focus on your desired vibe makes you deliberate and effective.
This isn't about putting on airs or being fake. It's about deciding what energy you want to embody and creating the conditions to produce the value only you can bring.
Your Surroundings Shape Your Vibe
At Martha Stewart, I was surrounded by exceptionally creative people who brought fresh perspectives, believed in creating new solutions, and expected excellence. This energy elevated mine.
Creating your vibe is easier when you're around others who radiate positive energy - this is crucial to consider when hiring.
Your Vibe
What vibe do you want for yourself?
Start by defining the feelings that give you energy. Here's a list of emotions to get you thinking. Find five to seven that feel good to you and that you believe can represent how you want to feel each day and offer as a vibe to bring to the world.
With your list of emotions, define how you'll bring them this week.
If your vibe is your value, then who you are is defined by how you show up.
STOP powering through.
START powering up.
Who do you want to be?
Answer that call.
Living intentionally is the conscious act of turning up your vibrations. 🔥
