High-Performers Control Only What They Can Control
The world to seems out of control, and just when you can’t imagine it getting worse, it does.
The weight of it all, along with your everyday challenges, is heavy, overwhelming and some days feels really out of control.
You can make this sh$t up.
Here is a quick and simple exercise to help take back your control, focus on what matters most, and help you regain a grip on the roller coaster that is today's life.
Make a list of everything that is creating stress/anxiety/distraction. A long list of all the things from business, family, the world as you know it. All the things.
Divide your list into two lists with one representing what is in your control and the second list of those things that are not in your direct/immediate control.
On the list that is not in your immediate/direct control, put a star next to things that you can influence.
Take both lists and answer these questions about each of them:
What can I START to do?
What can I STOP doing?
What do I want to CONTINUE to do?
In the coaching world we say you cannot change your circumstance but you can change how we react to them.
You have control over where you spend your time, with whom you spend it, what you consume, how you grow.
You can take control, focus and inspiration into your own hands.
I spend only a few minutes each day scrolling on social media. I have intentionally filled my social media feed with people who inspire me. I want my feed to make me laugh, make me think, lift me up. I don’t need more anxiety, disruption, negativity to make me feel more out of control. I fill my feed with content that feeds my soul.
Here's a super fun post that reminds me to keep going even when it all feels hard. The video (click to view) reflects what I feel like on any given day. I’ve saved it to watch it again and again when I need a reminder to keep going.
I've made a choice to not make my social feed a place where I read the news.
I’ve also taken Mel Robbins advice to make it a practice to unfollow accounts that are no longer lifting me up. She calls it ‘Unfollow Friday’. I now make it a practice to unfollow at least one account each week. It gives me back control.
I was reminded by someone on social that the smartest people spend their time reading versus being entertained.
How many books have you read this year? Here are a few of my favorites. I’m currently reading The Last Word on Power (Tracy Goss) and Bob Iger’s Ride of a Lifetime with Girl on Fire (Cara Leyba) on deck to read.
Pay attention to what you are consuming and how you are spending your time. It’s easy to control.
When things feel out of control, hold precious your time and what you are consuming.
If you don’t control it, why worry about it?
Because you don’t control it.
If you do control it, why worry about it?
Because you control it.

"I would highly recommend Christina's coaching for those who thrive in a supportive environment, who are looking for someone to be in their corner and someone they can bounce ideas off of. Her coaching helped me accomplish things faster/ move at a faster pace than I normally would have if I didn't have a coach or someone to keep me accountable. If you're a solo-founder or a high up C-suite it can sometimes feel like you don't have someone to really count on (that is unbiased), coaching can offer that."
