Doing It With Or Without You
I don't rely on motivation to be the thermostat of my day, my week, or my life.
I do not rely on my energy to have a good day.
I don’t rely on how good I feel to know things are moving forward.
I rely on my intention to meet my goals.
I turn the thermostat dial up and down based on what I decide.
I’m in control; my motivation is not.
“I am doing it with or without you, Motivation!”
I rely on my processes and my consistency. It's foundational support that keeps me going.
Deliberate, intentional consistency that’s always there like a friend who has my back.
Motivation comes when I get to do the things I love to do because I’ve created the systems and habits to set me up for success.
When I know things are getting done, that knowing allows me to do things that bring me motivation.
And because of it, it gives me more space to create the impact that also motivates me.
I work out 4 mornings a week—a practice for years. I don’t have to think about it because it is built into my day. Is it hard? Yes. Do I always want to do it? NO. But it’s become a part of me, and because of that, the chatter in my head is no longer in control.
I’m doing it with you or without you, Motivation!
One of the most important habits in my day is my morning routine. I found out the hard way that the days I skip it or tell myself I don’t need it are the days I need it most.
Remember that when you are having a bad day. Then, ask: What did I need to give to myself to set me up for success?
I’m doing it with or without you, Motivation!
One last thing…in the past, when things were at their hardest, I procrastinated.
What I’ve learned is…
What you are putting off is exactly where your focus is most needed.
Procrastination has a compounding impact. It steals your energy and is a mindset bottleneck.
People say they feel stuck or have lost motivation, which often results in procrastination.
Next time you find yourself procrastinating, ask yourself:
What is my procrastinating protecting me from?
What am I resisting? (Likely, it's a feeling)
What do I not want to feel?
Discovering what you don't want to feel may help you get unstuck.
You don't need to rely on the feeling of motivation.
