What's Strong with You? 💪
What’s strong with me? 💪
When I’m hit with a crisis, I focus on what I can control.
This is a strength of mine.
Strength has more than one definition. Physical strength is just one definition.
What about emotional strength?
What’s strong with you?
Two years ago, Fitbit launched a new campaign slogan with a powerful turn of phrase to celebrate individual strength of mind and body. Not just the physical kind. The kind that is defined by each of us individually. Great advertising makes you think and feel and this one does just that.
Each of our definitions of strong are different.
You get to define your strong.
The story of what’s strong with you - what’s allowed you to achieve so much - is your guide, your North Star, your fuel.
When was the last time you reviewed, recognized, and detailed how your strengths helped you achieve so much success so far?
Instead, we see our weaknesses. Our merciless self judgments.
-Lost car keys: What’s wrong with me?
-Typo in your email: I’m so careless.
-Forgotten calendar appointment: I’m such a loser.
-Not speaking up in a meeting: I’m so bad at this. I just can’t.
-Calling someone you’ve met 10x by the wrong name: I suck.
-Replying to all on an email when what you wrote was for just one colleague: I’m so stupid, just the worst person ever, how could I, what’s wrong with me, I’m so stupid, I deserve it.
Lots of drama and time spent working against ourselves instead of for ourselves.
Stop focusing on what’s wrong with you (which is NOTHING), and focus on what’s STRONG in you.
When you see your strengths as currency, you intentionally aim them toward success.
The Pareto Principle says that 20% of what you do each day creates 80% of your impact. Likely that 20% comes from what you are good at and strong at.
You feel happier and more fulfilled when you have more impact.
Doing what you do well and doing more of it --> impact = happiness and fulfillment.
Why do we spend time on improving our weaknesses when spending time leveraging our strengths is where real impact occurs.
Stop blending in. Start using your strengths to stand out.
If you have trouble clarifying your strengths, ask a friend, colleague, or family member. Read your client testimonials. Look at performance reviews for the good stuff. Look at the recommendations people have written on your behalf.
Just do it. (From Fitbit to Nike, I'm feeling like a sporty-spice.)
Successful people are intentional.
What if you woke up each morning and asked: What’s Strong With ME?
High achievers focus on their strengths and use them to counterbalance their weaknesses.
You don’t have to be good at everything. Be good at what you are good at and what comes naturally.
When you apply your strengths, real change takes hold.
Use this strategy of strength as your personal go-to-market.
I invite you to discover and embrace your strengths.
Tell me, what’s strong with you? 💪
