Unveiling the Hidden Cost: How Impatience Undermines High-Achievers
I missed my 2023 financial goal. I like big goals, and this one, I swung and just missed. I'm sharing for transparency to inspire new thinking around goal-setting rituals.
I had a year full of FIRSTS in 2023. I know this because I did my audit process, but before I started it, and every year I do this, my unmanaged mind tells me I did nothing much/nothing better/nothing different/nothing good.
I force myself not to believe what my mind tells me but instead find the facts and evidence. (If you have not done a 2023 audit, please use this nudge as fuel for your 2024. This worksheet works!)
✔️ I launched my book, For Success Sake!
✔️ I launched my course, Success Unleashed.
✔️ I held my first retreat with a long-time friend and new partner (more to come on that).
✔️ I was asked to be an instructor in my Mastermind.
✔️ I logged almost 600 hours of coaching.
“New Year. New You” feels forced and full of pressure. It’s why 90% of resolutions go unmet. If resolution setting doesn’t work, what will?
There is no need for 'new' if it comes from outside or inside pressure to be perfect, different, or better.
There is no need to be new if new is not your dream. Dreams become reality with the willingness to be deliberate, consistent, and intentional over a lifetime.
I’m reminded of the toxicity of impatience. Impatience comes from need and lack when abundance and growth are the real fuel.
When impatience creeps in—that feeling of hurry or hustle wrapped in a bit of entitlement that thinks things should be easier or happening faster--know that you are sufficient as you are. Then ask yourself, what do I really want? Follow it by being intentional toward the want.
Remember that when you earn a dollar, you then want $10, and with $10, you want $100, and so on. The goalposts always move. And money goals by themselves without a 'why' are rarely achieved.
I didn’t hit my 2023 goal, but I’ve hit that goal this week, 20 days after the year's close. I'm celebrating that.
I’ve set another big, hairy 2024 business goal with a calendar filled with new ways to give support, coaching, and teaching to help my clients reimagine success and help them reach their potential, not in 12 months but in their lifetime.
That's the journey. The destination is not what matters.
Always set out for growth - to grow personally and professionally. Growth in how you lead yourself. Grow in your skills and capabilities—growth in your well-being practices and health goals.
Set big goals with the knowing that we are in this for the journey, the long-haul, not for 12-months.
After a year that had some bumps and bruises among the winning;
I'm pulling out of the rest stop.
I'm buckled in and have my foot firmly on the gas.
I directionally know where I'm going and am prepared for detours and speed bumps, even expecting them.
I'm open to course correcting and changing destinations midway, not letting fear or uncertainty take over.
I’m not entitled to a smooth ride. No one is.
The destination is not as exciting as the journey.
The journey has been remarkable and prideful.
Continuing the journey is such a gift to me.
I'm not measuring my success by the destination or mile marker of 12 months or my annual goal but by my additive progress forward.
I’m measuring my success by what’s most important to me: joy, ease, and impact. I hit that out of the park this year!

OOPS. The link to the feedback from last week's reader survey didn't work properly.
It would mean so much to me and my business if you would take less than 60 seconds to give me your thoughts on how I can grow and improve Sunday Sunshine ☀️. 🙏
It's a 6-question survey. (takes less than 60 seconds….. I promise.)
